About

My name is Steve Javiel

I'm an artist living and working in Oakland. I have enjoyed painting dog portraits for over 14 years, and I am excited to create this website dedicated exclusively to my dynamic pet portraits.

I am a painter by training and my typical style is based on abstract flowers. I focus on color and emotion in my work.

The story of this series began when I was asked to paint dog portraits for an art show in San Francisco. While not my usual subject, I was pleased with the results, and they all sold out! From then on, I've had the privilege of collaborating with increasingly appreciative dog owners."

My artistic approach has evolved through creating these paintings, initially sparked by a commission from a friend for a portrait of her dog, Lucky, a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. In the process,I drew inspiration from Andy Warhol's dynamic, close-up portraits characterized by vibrant colors. I was pleased that the result really captured the personality of Lucky. I've had the fortune to paint numerous other dogs and would be honored to create a portrait of yours!"
